Snow Falling on Cedars

    In the novel “Snow Falling on Cedars” the author, David Guterson, discusses many issues that involve Japanese people living in America and in particular the Japanese people of San Piedro This book is based around a court trail for Kabuo Miyamoto because it is thought that he had murdered local gill-netter Carl Heine. David Guterson talks about how the Japanese people were treated before, during and after World War Two. This novel explores the love that a young Japanese woman named Hatsue shared with Ishmael, the local journalist, and Kabuo, her husband. Multicultural novels reveal to us the pain and suffering caused by man’s selfishness, greed and prejudice. In “Snow Falling on Cedars” David Guterson informs us of this by telling us how the Japanese people were treated during and after the second word war. They were treated differently by everyone as everyone had they own opinions. But most of the people had a bias opinion because the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbour. During the war after Pearl Harbour had been bombed, the white Americans of the town were always harassing the Japanese people of San Piedro.
