HONKY
Dalton Conley’s, HONKY is a vividly detailing autobiographical memoir of his life, growing up in the predominately black and Hispanic ghettos of New York's lower East Side. Although Conley is “white”, he shows and proves this as an increasingly difficult fact that he has to face. The racial tension during the 70’s and 80’s ensure no certain privilege for him in this American culture. Conley refines the idea of race and the analysis that constructed race – in all of its variations – how it shapes attitudes, experiences and even destiny in a world where no one is truly color-blind.
