Midsummer Dream Compare and Contrast
Women in Charge
Women didn’t have any rights to be independent or rights in the Renaissance because the men were in charged. They didn’t have the right to be with the one they love, no right to disobey their husband or father, and no freedom to go anywhere. The play A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare describe how unfair women were treated in the Renaissance, but in the movie directed by Adrian Nobel the characteristic of women were still the same, but the actions of the women were not in the Renaissance; they were in modern times. Hermia wasn’t afraid to elope with the one she love, and Titania didn’t give in to her husband’s will; unlike Hippolyta, she agreed to marry to the person she didn’t love, and Helena whom begged a guy to give her love.
Hermia was described as the strong will and independent person. She refused to follow her father and Thesis order and still she has the courage to elope with the person she loves, and yet, she stills follow the rules of Athens for not sleeping with Lysander until she’s married.
