Character relationships with The Tempest
Prospero’s character changes throughout the play. He grows wiser during his years on the island and realises that it is better to forgive those who have wronged him then to take revenge. A good example of this is when he says to his brother Antonio, ”For you, most wicked sir, whom to call my brother would infect even my mouth, I do forgive thy rankest fault - all of them; and require my dukedom of thee, which perforce, I know, thou must restore.” This tells us that Prospero is willing to forgive all Antonio’s sins, even his worst, and Antonio is obligied to return the title of Duke of Milan to Prospero.
Early in the first scene in which both Miranda and Prospero appear, Miranda enquires whether or not Prospero has raised the tempest by using his `art’, or magic, on which they become dependent while living on the island.
