Booze and Bare Knuckles
Roddy Doyle´s work, The Woman Who Walked Into Doors centers around a woman called Paula Spencer. The book is basically a rerun of Paula´s past projected through her memories. Trough the course of the book many not so colourful events explain the state which she is in at the beginning of the book. Most notably the events of her husband abusing her and she abusing alcohol. The role these two parts in the story is huge and the affects of them on the people are huge. So what affects did the violence and alcohol have on the people? Does the violence lead to alcohol abuse or vice versa?
During Paula´s youth she got put down by her father, her mother´s lack of independence and the teachers´ indifference. Her father called her a slut while her mother sat politely, smiled and looked the other way. If the teachers noticed her (or any kid) it would be while they were
