A Ritual of Self Acceptance Following Divorce
My sister and husband got married on October 23, 2000. My sister was happy because she was marrying her high school sweetheart. She believed he was her soul mate and they were about to start their family. After a year into the marriage a baby came, they were getting a house built and it seemed to be the perfect life. She began to come to me telling me she was unhappy and he didn’t help her financially or with their son. I began to question her actions towards him and why was she feeling this way. I have never been married and had been a single mother in and out of relationships and I didn’t have the answer for her. One day she came to me and stated that she wanted a divorce! This was a shock to me because they had seemed like they were getting things together. But, she told me that nothing was changing and she had fallen out of love with him. I thought there was never going to be any hope for me because they seemed to be the perfect couple, I was wrong. My sister never knew anything outside of her husband, was she really ready to be on her own? I was scared for my sister because she was gullible to the world outside of her marriage and her family.
