A Corpse Cares Not How Much You Miss Him
Once in a while I hear a song that, for one reason or another, I can truly relate to. In most cases, the song relates to my personal romantic relationships. The song, “You’re Dead” by the Alkaline Trio tugs on a very different string. It speaks of loss just as the title suggests. However, the cause is very specific to me. Since listening to this song, I have gone back and noticed other songs by similar artists that deal with this topic. However none moved me the way that “You’re Dead” had. Matt Skiba is the writer of these lyrics and unlike most songs pertaining to loss of a loved one, this doesn’t speak of it in a figurative sense at all. The song was released in 2001 on the “From Here to Infirmary” album and tells me Matt’s feelings about his loss of a close friend due to an overdose on heroin.
What the hell is your name?
And can you explain this mess?
Matt is addressing whatever force is in charge of the death of his friend. He is unsure of what the being or entity is that causes it. Whether it is God, fate, or his own cruel luck. It has been said that Matt is a Satanist, however I couldn't find any factual evidence to support that statement.
This would be a perfect example of the 'question
