Rikki-tikki-tavi
One day a summer flood washed Rikki out of his burrow. Rikki was found by a small boy and his family. They took him in and dried him off. When they took him inside a man picked him up and put him down. Rikki then jumped on the little boys shoulder. The father said that that was the way for him to make friends. The father explained that it was good to have a mongoose around the house to fend off cobras and other vicious snakes. That night Rikki went to bed with the little boy “Teddy”. In the middle of the night, Teddy’s mother went to check on him. Rikki was awake on his pillow. Teddy’s mother was afraid that Rikki might bite Teddy, but her husband told her that “He would do no such thing” and that it is safer to have him in the room in case a snake came by.
