Of Mice and Men
Most people have felt lonely in their life one time or another. John Steinbeck wrote a great story about loneliness called “Of Mice and Men”. Loneliness can be hard on someone and this book gives many examples of people being lonely and how they deal with it. John Steinbeck portrays the theme of loneliness through the characters of Candy, Curley’s wife, and Crook.
Candy was a lonely character until the end of the book. In the beginning it seemed like he only had his dog and no friends. Towards the end it seemed like he started doing more things with the guys and he started to feel accepted because they were going to let him move on to the ranch with them. Before this though he was very lonely and all he would do is sit home and talk to his dog like it was the only thing he had. Candy said “A guy on a ranch don’t never listen nor ask no questions.” Candy also didn’t feel appreciated and he felt like the he is no good to anyone.
