Heroism

    Throughout the seeds of American history, a small number of individuals have fought, survived, or even died for the greater good of the world, despite being exposed to adversity. They are what some people would call heroes. These heroes may be struggling against society, nature, or even themselves as they continue to catch the admiring eye of onlookers. One specific hero, Carter Druse, was an independent man, who proved to be brave and loyal in the story, “A Horseman In the Sky,” written by Ambrose Bierce. In the story, he joined the Union Army against his fathers’ wishes, and in order to save his troops killed his father. Despite overwhelming family pressure, Carter Druse was able to maintain his independence.
